AI Alt Text Generator Privacy Policy

AI Alt Text Generator (the App) provides product-image alt text generation, review, publication, and restoration services to merchants who use Shopify to power their stores. This Privacy Policy describes how information is collected, used, shared, and retained when you install or use the App.

Information the App Collects

The App accesses store and product information needed to provide the service, including your store domain, product and image identifiers, product context, image URLs, existing alt text, and settings. We store generated suggestions, review decisions, original alt text backups, publication and restoration history, and job status so you can review changes and restore eligible original descriptions.

The App stores encrypted Shopify access credentials. It does not request access to customer or order records. If you contact support, we receive the contact information and message you choose to provide.

For subscriptions and one-time credit packs, we store the selected plan or pack, amount, currency, Shopify billing status, transaction references, and credit history to provide credits and reconcile billing. Shopify handles payment details; the App does not store payment card information. Subscription credits and purchased credits are tracked separately.

How We Use Your Information

We use this information to provide and operate the App, generate alt text, save and verify approved changes, restore eligible originals, manage credits, reconcile payments, respond to support requests, and protect against unauthorized access and duplicate processing.

Sharing Your Information

Generating alt text sends the selected image and relevant product context and generation settings to the configured AI service. The current service uses Gemini through Bytecatcode. Shopify, AI, hosting, database, and infrastructure providers process information necessary to deliver the service. Processing may occur outside your country. Contact us for details about the service providers and their processing arrangements.

Your Rights

You may contact us to request access to, correction of, or deletion of information we hold about you. We also process Shopify privacy requests. We may need to verify your authority to make a request for a store.

Data Retention and Deletion

While your App account remains active, we retain the information needed to provide the service, including original alt text and change history used for restoration. Purchased credits do not expire as part of a subscription cycle; subscription credits follow the verified paid period. Deleting account data also removes the associated local balances and restoration history.

When the App is uninstalled, we disable processing for that installation, cancel active jobs, and remove Shopify sessions. Balances and purchase history may remain to support reinstallation before a Shopify shop deletion request is processed. When we process Shopify's shop/redact request, we delete the store's product and image cache, suggestions, original backups, review and change history, jobs, exports, settings, and local billing and credit records.

Limited store-identification and deletion-request records remain to prevent old installation requests from reactivating deleted data and to handle duplicate requests. If an operator must resolve a blocked deletion, we also retain the operator identifier, case reference, and the affected request or evaluation-attempt identifiers with the deletion record. These records do not retain product content, images, alt text, or access tokens. We do not retain a separate app-linked financial backup by default. Any legally required retention or accounting exception is reviewed separately with appropriate business and legal advisors.

To enforce AI spending limits and prevent duplicate requests, the App also retains an inference budget record after a store deletion. It includes a request hash, model and pricing details, and accounted cost. After a completed store deletion, the App removes the input hash and usage and outcome receipt from matching records. The remaining request hash may still be linked to a store using other records; it is not treated as anonymous. There is currently no automatic expiry for these records. We are reviewing the minimum information and retention period needed for this purpose.

A single marker in the minimal store record records whether the one-time introductory credit has already been granted. Uninstalling the App preserves the existing balance for a possible reinstall. Processing a Shopify shop deletion request removes all local balances and purchase records; reinstalling afterward starts with no prior balance and does not grant the introductory credit again. These minimal deletion and credit-eligibility markers remain with the store tombstone without a fixed expiry while needed to reject stale requests and duplicate grants.

Export downloads expire after 15 minutes. Expiry prevents further access; removal of stored export data follows the App's cleanup process. Deletion from third-party services and infrastructure backups follows their applicable processing and retention arrangements.

Changes

We may update this privacy policy to reflect changes to our practices or other operational, legal, or regulatory requirements.
